So just when you think the American government gave up trying to ruin the Internet, they start again under the guise of cybersecurity. The government now plans on passing the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act or CISPA.
In the same vein as “We have to pass it, to know what’s in it”, this bill is so vague that it allows Congress to circumvent existing online privacy laws and monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers ‘disruptive to the government or private parties’.
So it essentially funnels everything objectionable under a cybersecurity threat. The EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) explains there is almost no restrictions on what information can collected and how it can be used, if a company can claim it’s motived by cybersecurity concerns.
